Port Blair, Sept. 11: The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President, Shri. Rangalal Halder strongly opposes the recent hike in electricity tariffs for domestic, industrial and commercial consumers, introduced by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) for the Financial Year 2024-2025 at Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, Halder expressed serious concerns regarding the new tariff rates of Electricity, stating that while regulatory bodies must ensure the financial stability of electricity utilities, the current tariff increase places an undue burden on the Domestic, Industrial and Commercial Consumers.

"This steep hike, in an already challenging economic environment, exacerbates the struggles faced by Farmers, Workers and businesses," Shri. Halder remarked.

He emphasized the detrimental effect these increases will have on day to day life and businesses that rely heavily on electricity.

Shri. Halder further urged the Administration to direct the responsive authority to reconsider the tariff structure to ensure that Households, Businesses and Industries can continue to operate sustainably without being crippled by increased costs.
