Mayabunder, Sept. 12: In a concerted effort to enforce the provisions of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA)-2003, the Revenue Officials from the District Administration of North & Middle Andaman conducted a thorough inspection of various shops and establishments across the district. The inspections aimed to ensure that all vendors and businesses are adhering to the rules and regulations outlined in the COTPA Act-2003, specifically concerning the sale and display of tobacco products.
During the inspection, the Officials emphasized the importance of complying with Sections 4 and 6 of the Act, which prohibit smoking in public places and the sale of tobacco products to minors or within a 100-meter radius of educational institutions. Shop owners were reminded of the severe penalties for violating the Act, which include fines and potential cancellation of business licenses.
The inspection drive is part of a broader initiative by the District Administration, under the guidance of Shri Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of North & Middle Andaman, to safeguard public health and promote a tobacco-free environment. The Deputy Commissioner reiterated the Administration’s commitment to the strict enforcement of the law and encouraged the public to report any violations.
The District Administration has called upon the citizens to support this initiative in creating a healthier, tobacco-free community. For any complaints or information regarding violations of the COTPA Act-2003, the public have been encouraged to contact the authorities.
