Port Blair, Sept. 13: In a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A & N Islands has invited his attention over the shortcomings at CHC Rangat, Middle Andaman.

The Community Health Centre at Rangat requires immediate attention over important healthcare concerns in the interest of local residents, particularly women folks. Due to non-availability of permanent Gynecologist in the centre, the pregnant women are going through tremendous hardships in obtaining routine and regular check-ups. Despite presence of Ultra Sound machine and other facilities at CHC Rangat, the absence of Gynecologist forces women to travel to Port Blair for delivery or problems associated with pregnancy.

In addition to the absence of Gynecologist, there is a pressing need for Medical Specialist at CHC Rangat. Many patients suffering from various kinds diseases including diabetes, hyper tension, cancer etc. are not receiving the necessary treatment due to lack of specialized medical services. Posting of a medical specialist is very much required at Rangat CHC, Shri Ray pointed in the letter.

Another important issue of much concern is the sorry state of affairs with X-Ray unit at CHC Rangat. The existing X-Ray machine is unreliable and out dated. Hence a new sophisticated X-ray machine needs to be installed at the CHC immediately. Moreover, only one X-Ray technician is posted in the CHC. When this technician goes on leave due to illness or reasons, the X-ray unit goes into shut state. Hence an additional Technician needs to be posted in the CHC.

It is also observed that the X-ray room is too small and congested. Hence the x-ray room needs to be expanded and renovated, Shri Ray demanded in his letter.
