Diglipur, Sept. 13: The Integrated Child Development Services Unit of the Social Welfare Department organized an awareness camp, highlighting the provisions under the acts enacted, safeguarding the women’s rights, at Model Senior Secondary School Sitanagar today. In the camp organized in different sessions, Adolescent girls were made aware about the provisions related to Domestic Violence Prohibition Act, Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act, and the provisions of strict legal actions against sexual harassment of women at the workplace.
Addressing the girls of senior classes, Police Station Head Vijay Kumar said that several acts have been implemented to ensure women's rights, and every woman should be aware of them. By being aware of their rights, they can live a fear-free life and can also tell other women about them. On this occasion, Sub-Inspector Abdul Shakeel explained at length about the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act and said that if they feel that anyone is taking them towards an immoral act anywhere in their daily life, then they should immediately inform the police about it. They should be alert and should not get misled by anyone.
Calling upon the girl students, the Principal of the school, Balbir Singh, said that they are empowered girls of the new India and they should fearlessly move ahead in life. Referring to the POCSO Act, he said that in case of any kind of misbehavior, especially sexual harassment, they should without any fear put their complaint in the POCSO box of the school, on which immediate action will be taken. Stressing on the need for moral values in life, he said that by following good principles, they have to keep their focus on studies and courageously move towards their goal and success is bound to come.
Child Development Project Officer Indira Devi also resolved their doubts in the question-answer session. 70 girls of class IX and XI participated in this awareness program. This programme is a part of the 100 days special awareness campaign on women empowerment launched by the Ministry of Women and Child Development on 21st June this year.
