Kamorta, Oct. 14: In pursuance to the directions of the Directorate of RD, PRIs and ULBs, A&N Administration and with the support of District Administration, Nicobar, a Social Mobilization Camp-cum-Community Interaction programme was conducted at Pilpillow village in Kamorta under Nancowry Block under Deen Dayal Antyodaya- National Rural Livelihood Mission, a flagship programme of Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

The event was chaired by the Block Development Officer, Nancowry in the presence of Captain and Headmen along with other public representatives of Pilpillow Village. The BDO addressed the gathering and emphasized on the significant role of women in strengthening the socio-economic fabric of the community.

The primary focus of the camp was to engage with women of the village and discuss the immense potential for forming Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as institution buildings of poor to foster community bonding and to promote financial independence and livelihood activities in the area.

Tribal women from the village actively participated in the discussions, showing keen interest in learning about the benefits of forming SHGs and the opportunities they present for collective economic growth.

During the programme, the BDO highlighted various factors essential for the success of SHGs, stressing the importance of unity, collaboration, and mutual support to build a strong foundation for these groups. He also encouraged women to utilize the existing resources within the village and explore innovative ways to expand the activities of SHGs to create sustainable livelihoods for all members and briefed the importance of the Revolving Fund support, community investment funds and other marketing opportunities provided to SHGs for their income enhancement.

It was also assured that the Administration will provide continuous support in facilitating capacity-building programs and providing necessary guidance to enhance the functioning of the Self Help Groups in the region.

Apart from this, discussion on other innovative models that could be adopted under other rural development programmes of Government viz. MGNREGA, DDU-GKY etc. were held. It was also highlighted that the Government is actively focusing towards saturation in all Government Schemes as part of the Sampoornatha Abhiyan under Aspirational Block Programme and community leaders were urged to come forward and avail the benefits.

Earlier, the Captain and Headman, Pilpillow village welcomed the officers and expressed his gratitude for the conduct of such camps which will immensely help in community development.

This social mobilization camp marks a significant step towards strengthening the SHG movement in the region and sets the foundation for a brighter tomorrow.
