Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 11: Dakshata, an initiative of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India was launched on 7th November, 2024 in A&N Islands to improve the quality of Maternal and Newborn Care during the Intra and immediate postpartum period. In this regard, a three days training on Dakshata – Training programme to improve maternal, newborn care for Nursing Officers (2nd   Batch) was organized from Nov.7 to 9, 2024 in the Conference Hall of Directorate of Industries, Sri Vijaya Puram.

The training program concluded on Nov.9, in which, Dr. Suja Antony, Director (DHS) as the chief guest, handed over the certificates to the participants. In her concluding remarks, Dr. Suja Antony insisted on community in quality of care in the Labour Rooms for the better outcome of pregnancy. She also insisted on cascade training at local level and follow up of the cases in the Labour Rooms in order to maintain the quality of care.

Earlier, the training was inaugurated by Dr. Avijit Roy, Joint Secretary (RCH-II) and Dr. M.K Saha, Professor and HOD (Obs. & Gyneac).  In his inaugural address, the Joint Secretary (RCH-II) urged the participants to take the training seriously in order to improve the quality of health care in Labour Rooms and to reduce the maternal and infant mortality.

Dr. M.K Saha, Professor and HOD (Obs. & Gyneac), Ms. Ruby Varghese, Nursing Officer, Dr. R.P Hospital, Mayabunder and Ms. Privina, Nursing Officer, G.B Pant Hospital were the resource persons for the hands on training. Altogether, 12 Nursing Officers from various Health Institutions were trained.
