Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 27: Disputes between House Owners and the Tenants are very common in the Islands and elsewhere in the country. In order to give a protective clout to both house owners and the tenants, the parliament had passed a new regulation in the year 2023. Subsequent to that the Hon'ble President of India had promulgated a Regulation, namely the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Tenancy Regulation, 2023, as notified vide Notification No. CG-DL-E-24112023-250253 dated 24th November 2023. This regulation has been instituted to provide a comprehensive legal framework for tenancy in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, addressing the needs of both residents and tenants.
However, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Hon’ble Member of Parliament was informed by many people that the regulation has not been operationalized although 11 months has passed by since promulgation. This was due to the fact that the requisite Gazette Notification from the Andaman & Nicobar Administration to frame the necessary rules for its implementation has not been done. The lack of these operational guidelines is delaying the benefits and protections intended for the people of the islands under this regulation.
In view of the above the MP has requested the LG, in a recent letter, to expedite the framing and issuance of the required notification to bring the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Tenancy Regulation, 2023 into effect at the earliest.
