Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 28: In order to ensure that the services provided by the Transport Department are meeting the requirement of commuters in terms of reliability, safety, comfort etc., Dr. Jatinder Sohal, Director of Transport along with other officers, visited Bus Terminus, Sri Vijaya Puram yesterday for inspection and assessment of the public transport facilities being provided to the commuters. Condition of buses, terminus, parking & maneuvering arrangements inside the terminal, facilities for the commuters, availability of drinking water, washroom facilities etc. were inspected. Though, fitness expiry dates of the buses were displayed, officials were directed to ensure timely fitness inspection of buses after carrying out the necessary repair works. Directions were also issued for maintaining cleanliness of buses, good upholstery and hygiene inside the buses as well as in the Terminus.
Regarding the poor condition of roads in the premises, engineers of APWD were directed to ensure completion of the work in a fast track mode for which the work has already been awarded. As the work on renovation of canteen building has been completed, necessary instructions have been issued to officials to make the canteen functional on priority after following all the codal formalities. This canteen will not only be useful for the commuters who visit the bus terminus daily but also will be a great help for the employees working there.
The Director of Transport also interacted with the commuters travelling in the buses which were originating from the bus terminus and after listening to their grievances, on the spot directions were issued to officials for prompt redressal of their grievances. Bus drivers and bus conductors present on the occasion were also sensitized about the importance of soft skills and they were advised to be sensitive towards all categories of passengers.
The Director of Transport also visited the Central Workshop and inspected the repair and maintenance activities being carried out. He directed all the concerned employees to ensure timely maintenance in buses and also directed that the buses should not only be in perfect running condition but also be complying with all legal requirements.
Similar inspections will be carried out in all the Islands of this UT and feedback from the commuters will be obtained for its timely redressal.
