Sri Vijaya Puram, Dec. 6: In a ground-breaking achievement for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri B Neelaiah, a highly esteemed FIDE Arbiter, is officiating at the illustrious 18th Asian Schools Chess Championship 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand, from December 1-11, 2024. This historic event marks Shri Neelaiah as the first arbiter from the Islands to officiate at such a prestigious international platform.
Shri Neelaiah’s appointment is a testament to his unparalleled expertise, unwavering dedication, and significant contributions to chess officiating. Earlier this year, he successfully cleared the International Arbiter (IA) Exam and achieved his first IA Norm. He further secured his second norm while officiating at the World Junior Chess Championship 2024 in Gujarat this June. His role in the ongoing Asian Schools Chess Championship will earn him his third IA Norm, propelling him closer to the coveted International Arbiter title, which requires five norms.
“This achievement reflects Shri Neelaiah’s relentless hard work and commitment to the sport. His selection as an arbiter on the international stage is a matter of immense pride for the Islands,” said Shri C.S. Ashok, President of the Andaman and Nicobar Chess Association. “We extend our heartfelt congratulations and best wishes as he continues to excel.”
Shri Neelaiah’s accomplishment not only elevates his professional credentials but also serves as a beacon of inspiration for the chess community in the Islands, particularly young enthusiasts, to aim higher in the sport. The Andaman and Nicobar Chess Association, along with the entire community, celebrates this remarkable achievement and wishes him continued success in his journey.
