Car Nicobar, Jan 16: The Andaman and Nicobar Police is observing Police Raising week from 16/01/25 to 22/01/25. The history of A&N Police dates back to the year 1875, when organized police force was established in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. In order to deal with crime and criminals, in the year 1924, the Civil Police Force was formed as a separate branch under the control of a Commandant. After national independence, it was on 16th January, 1953, that Mr. Naushirwan Feroz Sauntook, the first IPS officer took over the charge of the Superintendent of Police from Shri M. Macfarland. This day is celebrated as the “Raising Day” of the Andaman & Nicobar Police.
On this occasion Nicobar District Police proudly commemorated Police Raising Day on 16/01/2025, marking the beginning of Police Raising Week celebrations from 16/01/2025 to 22/01/2025. The week-long celebration aims to honor the rich legacy of the Police Force and reinforce bonds with the community through a series of outreach and service-oriented activities.
To inaugurate the week’s events, a cleanliness drive was organized across the Nicobar District. The initiative was aligned with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, highlighting the significant role of citizens in maintaining a clean and healthy environment. Police officers and personnel from all five police stations in the district actively participated in cleaning public spaces, marketplaces, beaches, and other open areas within jurisdiction of Nicobar District.
In Car Nicobar, officers and personnel cleaned Malacca Beach and its surrounding areas, enhancing the natural beauty and raising awareness about maintaining public hygiene. Similarly, in Campbell Bay, police teams focused on keeping the picturesque Laxman Sea Beach clean and maintaining its natural beauty.
Nancowrie, police personnel, in collaboration with local residents, undertook a drive to clean the marketplace and jetty area of Kamorta village, which was well-received by the community. Meanwhile, in Katchal, staff from the Police Station, Fire Station, and Police Radio joined with the public to clean Kapanga Sea Beach, fostering a spirit of unity and shared responsibility. In Teressa, police officers actively participated in cleaning public spaces within their jurisdiction, contributing to the district-wide effort.
