Swaraj Dweep, Jan 17: In a significant effort to promote sustainable tourism practices, the District Administration, South Andaman conducted a workshop on the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating System on January 16, 2025, at Dolphin Resort. The session was organized in collaboration with the Hoteliers Association from both Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep.

The primary goal of the workshop was to educate hoteliers on the Green Leaf Rating System and its crucial role in promoting environmental sustainability within the hospitality sector. The Green Leaf Rating System is an important tool that helps evaluate the eco-friendly initiatives and resource management practices adopted by hotels and resorts.

During the workshop, attendees received a comprehensive understanding of the marking system and the various criteria required to achieve the Green Leaf certification. These criteria include waste management, energy conservation, water efficiency, and the use of environmentally sustainable materials, among others.

Shri Vasant Prasad Dabholkar, IAS (P), provided an insightful presentation, emphasizing the importance of adopting sustainable practices in the hospitality industry. He elaborated on how the Green Leaf Rating System can help enhance the reputation of hotels and resorts while contributing to a greener, more sustainable tourism industry.

The session was well-received, with active participation from the representatives of the Hoteliers Association. The workshop not only provided valuable insights into the Green Leaf Rating but also fostered a collaborative approach to sustainability in the hospitality sector.

As part of this initiative, the survey of hotels will begin on January 27, 2025. This survey will assess the environmental sustainability practices of hotels and resorts, supporting their eligibility for Green Leaf certification.
