Poisonous Clouds of Smoke Causes Threat to Institutions and Residential Areas Around
Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 17: It was only couple of years ago that the City’s Municipal Council had claimed that it was able to contain the poisonous smoke that was emitted 24x7 for years together from its Brookshabad Dumping Site. The round the year emission of poisonous smoke created by burning of unsegregated waste, had become a dangerous threat to the surroundings. It was only after due deliberations with experts that the Municipal Council could understand how to contain the pollution. The solution was simple; it was to segregate the waste from the house hold level, which had made the Council make tall claims about its achievement.
Few years down the line, continuous clouds of smoke are being witnessed by the residents of Brookshabad and nearby area, ringing alarm bells. The deadly smoke caused by burning of unsegregated wastes is seen as a result of unscientific and carefree attitude of the Municipal Council, residents claimed.
There are schools, university campus, CRC and hundreds of residences around the area, which are under direct and immediate threat due to this carelessness. The threat though visible in the surrounding is actually not confined to Brookshabad but also is expected to spread larger parts of Sri Vijaya Puram, with the winds blowing.
This report is not to tarnish the image of the Municipal Council but to send a caution and pose a question as to why the fire which was completely stopped few years ago has re-emerged.
