Kamorta, Jan 20: On 19/01/2025 at 1050 hours, Nicobar District Police acted swiftly on credible information received from the local people of Kamorta, regarding the sighting of a Burmese dinghy between Dering and Olinpow. A team led by the SHO of PS Nancowry, Sub-Inspector Calvin, along with police personnel, rushed to Dering village. A thorough search operation led to the discovery of the dinghy at Inkato Nalah, where six Burmese nationals were apprehended.

Upon interrogation, the detained individuals revealed that their group consisted of 09 members. The police team immediately conducted an operation in the surrounding area and successfully apprehended the remaining 03 Burmese nationals from the sea shore at Inkato. All 09 detainees are currently held at PS Nancowry under proper watch, and further interrogation is underway. They will be handed over to PS C&EO for initiating appropriate legal action.

The entire anti-poaching operation was led by Sub-Inspector Calvin, SHO PS Nancowry, under the command of Shri Solomon Samuel, DANIPS, SDPO Car Nicobar, and overall supervision of Shri Sunny Gupta, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Nicobar District.

Nicobar District Police urge local fishermen and the public to report any suspicious activities or the presence of foreign nationals to the nearest police station or over phone No.100, 112 & 03193. 265999 for timely action. The identity of the informers will be kept secret and will also be suitably rewarded.
