Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan 20: Former Member of Parliament Kuldeep Rai Sharma, has written to the Chief Secretary of Andaman & Nicobar Administration, urging to provide battery-operated passenger vehicles (buggies) to assist patients in reaching the entrance of G B Pant Hospital from the ANIIMS bus stop and from the hospital to the bus stop in return.
This initiative aims to improve the accessibility of the hospital for vulnerable patients, including senior citizens, pregnant women, children, and those with physical disabilities.
In his letter, Mr. Sharma highlighted the difficulties faced by patients, especially those who are unwell or physically challenged, as they are required to walk approximately 300 meters from the bus stop to the hospital entrance.
This walk, often made more difficult by harsh weather conditions such as heavy rains or intense sunlight, can be a major physical strain on patients who are already in need of medical care.
To address this issue, the Ex-MP has proposed the deployment of battery-operated buggies, similar to those in use at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose (Ross) Island and the Veer Savarkar International Airport, to ferry patients directly from the bus stop to the hospital and back to the bus stop from the hospital.
He believes this initiative would make the journey more comfortable and less stressful for those in need of medical attention.
He has requested the Chief Secretary to consider this proposal and take the necessary steps to implement this much-needed service to help the public at large.
The proposed solution is expected to improve the overall experience for patients visiting G B Pant Hospital, ensuring that they can transition smoothly from public transportation to medical care.
