Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 29: Road Safety is a matter of prime importance due to alarming increase in the number of Road accidents and increase in the resultant fatalities. As per the direction of Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, a lead agency for Road Safety Secretariat has been established by the UT Administration consisting of Officials from Transport, Police, Education, APWD and Health Departments.
To further enhance the knowledge and skill of the officials engaged in road safety activities in the UT, a 3 days In-Situ Training Program is being organized from Jan. 29 to 31, 2025 through Central Institute of Road Transport, Pune for the officials of Transport, Police, Education, PWD and Health Departments. The training program was inaugurated by Dr. Jatinder Sohal, Director of Transport today in the Conference Hall of TGCE, Sri Vijaya Puram.
In his inaugural address, the Director of Transport stressed upon the importance of adhering to Road Safety protocol and improving the skills and knowledge, so that common citizen can be sensitized about the importance of road safety through efficient awareness programs. He also stressed the need for enhancing the skills among the officials, so that the causes of road accidents and subsequent remedial measures can be identified and implemented effectively. The Director of Transport also observed that off late, 03 black spots in relation to road accidents have come up in the capital town of Sri Vijaya Puram, which is a cause of concern and advised the faculty as well as the trainees to visit the sites and come up with suitable remedial measures. He appealed to all the participants to grab the opportunity of learning from the experts during the training, so that the outcome can be implemented effectively. He also stressed upon the need to have a synchronized effort among the stakeholder Departments like Transport, Police, APWD, Education and Health.
Shri Prasanth Kakade, Head MDC & Road Safety, CIRT, Pune, in his keynote address, gave a brief about the necessities of such trainings for improving the coordination among the stakeholder Departments.
Shri S.N. Dhole, Head Technical Secretariat, CIRT, Pune, briefed about the need for improving the knowledge about various Motor Vehicle laws, Safety devices and other regulations.
The training program aims to cover the important topics like road safety principles, importance of accident data, vehicle compliance as per rules, safety devices, traffic and transport enforcement, emergency care (First – Aid and Trauma Care), engineering aspects for roads, street furniture, education and awareness among the students and others, capacity building of professional organizations, etc.
Earlier, Shri B. Binoy, Deputy Director welcomed the gathering and vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Maneesh Kumar Singh, Assistant Engineer.
