Sri Vijaya Puram, Feb 4: In observance of Road Safety month and Police Raising Week, the A&N Traffic Police undertook extensive traffic enforcement and awareness activities throughout January 2025 to ensure road safety, reduce traffic violations and educate road users. During this month various initiatives were conducted including strict checking of traffic violations, action against dangerous driving and drunken driving, as well as public awareness campaigns to promote responsible road behaviour.

Traffic Checking & Prosecution: To enforce discipline on the roads, the Traffic Police conducted extensive checks across the city. As a result, 1,533 challans were issued against violators and a total fine of Rs. 9,86,700/- was realized. These checks were aimed at ensuring adherence to traffic rules, controlling speeding and preventing unauthorized parking, among other violations.

Action against Dangerous Driving: Reckless driving poses a major threat to road safety. To curb such violations, a special drive was conducted, leading to the seizure of 12 vehicles involved in dangerous driving. Strict action was taken against offenders to deter reckless behavior on the roads.

Drunken Driving Enforcement: As part of efforts to prevent accidents caused by impaired driving, the Traffic Police carried out intensified checking against drunken driving. 132 offenders were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol. Their original driving licenses were seized and recommendations for their suspension have been made as per legal provisions.

Road Safety Awareness Programs: To instil responsible road behaviour among young citizens, 05 road safety awareness sessions were conducted at various schools across the city. Around 600 students participated in these sessions where they were educated on road safety rules, pedestrian safety, the importance of helmets and seat belts and responsible driving practices.

Blood Donation Camp: In a significant social initiative, a blood donation camp was organized on 20th January 2025 at PS Aberdeen Conference Hall in collaboration with GB Pant Hospital. A total of 27 police personnel voluntarily donated blood, contributing to the noble cause of saving lives and supporting medical emergencies.

Road Safety Pamphlet Distribution: As part of public awareness efforts, road safety pamphlets were distributed among drivers and commuters. These pamphlets contained important information on traffic rules, the dangers of overspeeding and reckless driving and the necessity of wearing helmets and seat belts.

Awareness at Public Transport Stands: To educate public transport drivers and passengers, special road safety awareness programs were conducted at bus, auto and taxi stands in the Sri Vijaya Puram areas. These programs aimed to sensitize drivers about safe driving practices, pedestrian rights, and the importance of following traffic regulations.
