Sri Vijaya Puram, March 3: The Department of Posts will be organizing the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter Writing Competition for Young People. The competition is scheduled to be held on 24.03.2025, at the Sri Vijaya Puram Centre. The subject of the competition will be "Imagine you are the ocean. Writing a letter to someone explaining why and how they should take good care of you." Children up to the age of 9-15 years as on 31-03-2025 can participate. The composition must be presented in the form of a letter not exceeding 800 words on the given subject. The letter may be written either in English or in any Regional language listed in the 8th schedule of the Constitution of India.
The competition will be of one-hour duration from 1200 hrs to 1300 hrs on 24.03.2025 (Monday). The venue will be mentioned in the Hall Permit. The winners will be awarded as follows:
Prize (at Circle Level)
First prize - Rs. 25,000/- and a certificate
Second prize - Rs. 10,000/- and a certificate
Third prize - Rs. 5,000/- and a certificate
Prize (at National Level)
First prize - Rs. 50,000/- and a certificate
Second prize - Rs. 25,000/- and a certificate
Third prize - Rs. 10,000/- and a certificate
The best entry at the national level shall qualify as the official Indian entry for the international level competition. The UPU will select the award-winning entries. The winners will receive a special medal (gold for 1st, silver for 2nd, and bronze for 3rd) and possibly other prizes to be confirmed by the UPU. The Gold medalist may also be offered a trip to the UPU headquarters in Bern, Switzerland, or an alternative prize to be decided at the sole discretion of the UPU.
Interested candidates are invited to apply to the Centre In-Charge, Deputy Superintendent of Post Offices, O/o the Postmaster General, A & N Islands, Sri Vijaya Puram-744101. Applications should reach on or before 15-03-2025. Participants need to apply along with three passport-size photographs using the application format available at the O/o the Postmaster General, A & N Islands, Sri Vijaya Puram-744101 or from their respective schools.
Participants shall submit a completely filled-up application form along with one photocopy of age-proof documents in duplicate. One copy of the application form must be retained by the applicant as a hall ticket for entry at the venue on the day of the competition.
No candidate will be allowed to appear unless Aadhaar/School ID (in original) is produced before the Centre-In-Charge on the date fixed for the competition. No candidate will be allowed to carry laptops, mobile phones, or any books/exercise books at the time of the competition.
