Sri Vijaya Puram, March 9: The District Legal Services Authority, Andaman & Nicobar Islands held National Lok Adalat in the District Court Building, Port Blair, ADR Centre-PRAYAS’, Port Blair and Sub-Divisional Court Complex at Mayabunder and Diglipur today. As one of the achievements, National Lok Adalat was also held at Campbell Bay through Virtual mode at Port Blair.
The Judicial Officers of this judgeship were present to mark the commencement of the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair, Mayabunder, Diglipur and Campbell Bay.
A total of 1222 pre-litigation cases including 623 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases and 367 cases pending in different courts at Port Blair and Campbell Bay were referred to the National Lok Adalat, out of which, 90 pre-litigation bank recovery cases and 19 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were disposed of by the National Lok Adalat at Port Blair. Disposing of 90 bank recovery cases including 15 matters of Campbell Bay, the involved amount of Rs. 5,04,56,434.89/- have been settled at Rs. 2,88,09,500/-, thus paving a benefit of Rs. 2,16,46,934.89/- to the bank loan borrowers. A sum of Rs. 21,81,000/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 19 BSNL cases the involved amount of Rs. 1,08,346/- was settled at Rs. 54,800/-. A sum of Rs. 47,800/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 340 Criminal cases a sum of Rs. 2,23,100/-was realized as fine.
In Mayabunder, one bench was constituted and 157 pre-litigation cases including 100 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were referred out of which 15 pre-litigation bank cases and 16 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were disposed of. Disposing of 15 bank recovery cases, the involved amount of Rs.17,59,965.62/- have been settled at Rs. 12,95,000/-, thus paving a benefit of Rs. 4,64,965.62/- to the bank loan borrowers. A sum of Rs. 70,100/- was realized on the spot. Disposing of 16 BSNL cases the involved amount of Rs. 18,711/- was settled at Rs. 10,900/- which was realized on the spot. 113 cases pending in different courts were taken up out of which 60 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs.1,53,100/- was realized. In Diglipur, one bench was constituted and 150 pre-litigation cases including 101 pre-litigation BSNL recovery cases were referred, out of which, 34 pre-litigation cases were disposed of, the involved amount of Rs.26,06,514/- have been settled at Rs. 15,72,800/-. A sum of Rs.1,40,800/- was realized on the spot. 37 cases pending in different courts were taken up, out of which, 28 criminal compoundable cases were disposed of and a fine amount of Rs. 95,900/- was realized.
The District Legal Services Authority has constituted four benches at Port Blair, one Bench at Mayabunder and one bench at Diglipur. The Benches at Port Blair were presided over by Shri Diptendra Nath Mitra, Judge, Family Court, Port Blair, Shri Neyaz Alam, Additional District and Sessions Judge, Port Blair, Shri Pabitra Sen, Joint Civil Judge (Sr. Division), Port Blair and Shri Souvik Ghosh, Judicial Magistrate First Class, 1st Court, Port Blair sitting with Smti. Monisha Ajit, Advocate, Smti C. Kala Devi, Advocate, Smti K. Usha Rani, Advocate and Shri Prem Pushpa Bai, Advocate, Shri. K. Vijay Kumar, Social Worker, Smti Maria Sheela, Social Worker, Smti. Komal Anand, Social Worker and Smti Pandiyamma, Social Worker. The bench at Mayabunder was presided over by Shri. Subhajit Basu, Additional District and Sessions Judge, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Shri Sudip Sutradhar, Advocate and Shri Saw Thomson, Social Worker. The bench at Diglipur was presided over by Shri Somnath Das, Judicial Magistrate First Class, N&M Andaman, Mayabunder sitting with Smti Ranjita Sarkar, Advocate and Shri Shyamal Debnath, Social Worker.
