Sri Vijaya Puram, March 12: The growth in dairy sector is closely linked with availability of nutritious fodder. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services promotes improved fodder cultivation in the field for the benefit of dairy farmers. Along with the propagation of nutritious fodder production, the Department focuses on conservation of fodder. Conservation of fodder is important to ensure steady and stable supply of nutritious food for livestock especially during the seasonal shortage of fodder.
In this connection, a hands on training on Silage making- a fodder conservation method was organised by the Department at Livestock Farm Complex Dollygunj. The training was imparted by the resource person from ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram, Dr. Prakash Bala, Principal Scientist, to the trainers of Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services and the progressive farmers of South Andaman.
The ensiling method was demonstrated and an interactive session was held. Earlier, welcoming the gathering, Dr. Subash Baburao Palve, SVO stressed on good Animal Husbandry practices for the welfare of livestock. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sunita Roy urged the farmers to adopt silage making.
