Sri Vijaya Puram, March 13: ICAR-CIARI, Sri Vijaya Puram in collaboration with its KVKs, is set to host the Kisan Mela from March 18th to 19th, 2025, at the Mela ground located in the Garacharma Research Complex. The event is anticipated to attract approximately 1,000 farmers from various gram panchayats across the South, Middle, and North Andaman & Nicobar districts.
This two-day event will serve as a vibrant platform for farmers, researchers, and policymakers to engage with one another, promoting the fusion of traditional agricultural practices with modern scientific advancements to ensure a sustainable and thriving agricultural future. It will also celebrate the spirit of agriculture and innovation. Dr. Chandra Bhushan Kumar, IAS, Chief Secretary of A&N Islands, has graciously accepted the role of Chief Guest and will inaugurate both the Kisan Mela and the Agro Eco Tourism initiative at Sippighat and Garacharma farm of the institute. Ms. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS Secretary, Agriculture & Animal Husbandry will grace the occasion as guest of honour. Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, Director of CIARI, has announced that the event will kick off at 08.30 AM on March 18th, 2025 with inauguration of agro e-ecotourism followed by Kisan Mela at 09.30 am.
The Kisan Mela will showcase everything from modern farming techniques to sustainable practices, as well as local products and cutting-edge technologies. Farmers, researchers, students, entrepreneurs, and all stakeholders passionate about agriculture to come and explore the extensive range of exhibits and activities planned for this two-day event.
A key feature of the mela will be the interaction between scientists and farmers, along with a quiz competition, providing an excellent opportunity for visiting farmers and stakeholders to engage with scientists and disseminate information on various aspects of agricultural development in the islands. Additionally, there will be twenty stalls displaying models of agricultural technologies and allied sectors for adoption and commercialization, alongside participation from development departments, self-help groups (SHGs), and the sale of seeds, seedlings, and byproducts, making the mela even more appealing.
