Sri Vijaya Puram, March 13: The valedictory function of the Seven-Day Skill Development Training Program on Beach Lifeguarding organised by Tourism Department, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, in coordination with the Rashtriya Life Saving Society (RLSS) India was held today in Andaman Teal House with great enthusiasm. The program, aimed at enhancing the skills of local unemployed youths. 158 applications were received, of which, 50 candidates were shortlisted on basis of the skill test in swimming i.e. time consumed for swimming 100 m and 100 m running conducted at Corbyn’s Cove Beach on 1st & 2nd March, 2025. This training program was successfully completed by 50 local aspirants from different Islands. They were imparted hands on training in essential lifesaving techniques, water rescue operations, and first aid procedures.
The Director of Tourism, Shri Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, in his address, emphasized the importance of up skilling the local youths to enhance their employability and ensure the safety of beachgoers. He highlighted that the initiative aligns with the Department’s commitment to promoting responsible tourism while creating job opportunities in the Islands. "The role of a beach lifeguard is critical in ensuring the safety of visitors. By equipping them with advanced rescue techniques and professional skills, we not only improve their career prospects but also enhance the overall tourism experience”, he said. He thanked the team of RLSS for their efforts in up-skilling the local youths.
The event also witnessed the distribution of completion certificates to the trainees, recognizing their dedication and commitment to learning. Participants expressed their gratitude for the hands-on training and expert guidance provided during the training program.
A significant highlight of the event was the oath-taking, where participants pledged their unwavering commitment to life-saving in any situation. They vowed to uphold safety standards, act swiftly in emergencies, and protect lives with dedication and professionalism.
This initiative is part of the broader efforts to strengthen coastal safety measures and boost local employment opportunities. The Tourism Department aims to continue such skill development programs in the future, further enhancing safety standards at popular beaches in the Islands.
