Sri Vijaya Puram, March 16: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying (DAHD), Govt. of India has dedicated the period from 14.02.2025 to 13.03.2025 this year as the Animal Husbandry & Animal Welfare Awareness Month to raise awareness about the importance of good Animal Husbandry practices and improve the welfare of livestock across the country.
In this regard, the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Sri Vijaya Puram, organized a Water Bowl Campaign during the Animal Husbandry & Animal Welfare Awareness Month, which concluded on March 13, 2025.
As part of the celebration, awareness of Animal Welfare was created among school children, wherein they were encouraged to provide feed and water to the birds and animals during the summer months. During the campaign, 3528 students belonging to 70 schools throughout the territory were sensitized on good animal husbandry practices and animal welfare to create a meaningful change for the animals. They were demonstrated to keep clean fresh water at various locations using eco-friendly materials. The children were shown to fill the water and place at vantage points.
Further, to generate interest, the children were asked to keep a look out for the number and kinds of birds visiting the bowl daily. Information in the form of pamphlets and fliers were distributed to the students. Posters were pasted at some schools while video clips on compassion, animal abuse and transformation stories were screened. Students participated in water bowl decoration competition in some schools. The students were administered pledge to care and work for animal welfare. The Campaign was very popular among the school children, who participated and showed keen interest in keeping the water bowl.
