Port Blair, Oct. 26: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nicobar in collaboration with Dept. of AH & VS, Katchal, Nicobar has organized a 3 day training programme on “Scientific Dairy Farming” for practicing farmers from  10th - 12th October 2012 at Community Hall, Japan Tikery, Katchal, Nicobar. During the inaugural session the Chief Guest, Shri. Michael Yak, Chief Captain, Katchal highlighted the importance of dairy farming and advised to adopt the same and also to inculcate the habit of drinking milk and usage of milk product. The Guest of Honor, Dr. R.K. Singh, SVO, Dept. of AH & VS, Katchal explained different schemes available in the Department and explained the importance of milk in human health.

At the outset, Dr. Zachariah George, Course Facilitator & SMS (AS), welcomed the gathering and appealed to the gathering to gradually take up cattle farming by "learning by doing" method. During the three days, the trainees were imparted knowledge and skill on different aspects of scientific dairy farming. A total of 30 tribal farmers, of which 17 males and 13 females were trained. The programme was ended with Vote of thanks proposed by Shri. Thomas, 1st Captain, Japan Tikery, Katchal.
