Port Blair, Nov. 1: A consultative meet on e-government opens at Port Blair tomorrow which will be inaugurated by the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration Shri Anand Prakash at Megapode Nest Resort tomorrow morning.

This consultative meet is part of the 50 workshops being organised in all States and Union Territories (UTs) to amplify the mission and message of the National E Governance plan (NeGP) - “Public Services Closer Home”.  This project is a key component of the Government’s “inclusive growth” strategy, which was approved by the Cabinet in May 2006.  It aims to deliver public services to the common man in his locality to make them both accessible and affordable.

With many states in various stages of rolling out public services on the e-Government platform, the NeGP Apex Committee decided to create awareness about NeGP initiatives among stakeholders, discuss challenges in delivery of e-Services, identify state-specific issues and understand emerging technologies from the industry through nationwide workshops and consultative meets.  The string of workshops will cover all state capitals,  UTs and some important cities.  The first workshop was hosted in the National Capital Territory of Delhi in July 2011 and the workshop in Port Blair is the 21st in the series.

The Port Blair workshop will be attended by key stakeholders of the NeGP, who will be drawn from Central and State Governments, e-Governance consultants, technology partners and implementing agencies.  During the daylong workshop, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration will showcase e-Government solutions implemented under the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP).

The workshop is being organised by Department of Electronics and Information Technology and A&N Administration in partnership with NASSCOM
