Port Blair, June 29: In pursuance of the decision taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI, an Administrator’s Advisory Council has been constituted for advising the Lt. Governor on all the issues concerning the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The Council will meet once in three months.
 
According to this, the Lieutenant Governor, A&N Islands, is the Chairperson of this Council while the Member of Lok Sabha representing this UT, Chairperson of the Municipal Council, A&N Islands, Chairperson of the Zilla Parishads, one Councilor elected by the Municipal Council on rotation basis each year, one other Member elected by each of the Zilla Parishad on rotation basis each year, Presidents/ Pramukhs of the all Panchayat Samitis in the UT, one representative from each of the major political parties to be nominated by the concerned party, five persons of standing representing civil society to be nominated by Lt. Governor, shall be the Members of this Council. The Chief Secretary, A&N Administration shall be its Convenor.
 
In case, no Member out of the said categories other than ‘five persons of standing representing civil society’, represent women and SC/ ST, nomination shall be made in such a way that at least one Member of the Council represents women and one SC/ST in the last category. The chair may invite/ co-opt any official member as deemed appropriate or invite any official from any of the Ministries as per requirement. One representative of Ministry of Home Affairs will also attend the meeting. The Ministry of Home Affairs reserves the right to make changes from time to time in the composition of the Council.
