Port Blair, May 6: The Department of Social Welfare is implementing various schemes under National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) w.e.f 15th August 1995 in this UT, which also includes National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS). 
 
The main objective of the NFBS is to provide a lump-sum benefit @ Rs.10,OOO/ - for household/family belonging to below poverty line on the event of death of primary breadwinner in the bereaved family. 
 
The National Family Benefit Scheme could be availed by those families belonging to below poverty line in which death of the primary breadwinner of the family has occurred either natural or accidental. The deceased should be in age group of 18 to 65 years and the household income should be below poverty line. The family benefit of Rs.10,OOO will be paid to the surviving dependent of the deceased. 
 
The eligible house hold/surviving dependent members may approach the Directorate of Social Welfare, Goalghar and Office of the Child Development Project Officers, Ferrargunj, Rangat, Diglipur and Car Nicobar in the prescribed application form duly filled in all respect supported by documents to avail financial benefit under the scheme.
