Port Blair, May 13: The Ministry of Women and Child Development has instituted the Rajiv Gandhi Manav Seva Award for service to children to give recognition to three individual who make outstanding contribution towards service for children in the field of Child Development, Child Protection and Child Welfare. 
 
The award is given to three individuals who have worked for the cause of children for over ten years. Nominations are invited from eligible individuals. Paid Officers of the Institutions will not be eligible for selection. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh and a citation. The sole basis of selection will be the quality of the work performed by the individual for the cause of children and its significance for the case.
 
The award will be announced on the birthday of Late Rajiv Gandhi on Aug 20 each year. The award will be received personally by the selected individual for whom the travelling & daily allowance/ actual expenditure incurred by him/her will be borne by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, New Delhi. 
 
The last date for submission of nomination to the Joint Secretary-cum-Director (Social Welfare) is May 17. The nominations will be scrutinized by a selection committee constituted at the UT level which shall recommend the same to the National Committee for final selection.
