Port Blair, Feb. 19: TheBye elections to fill up the vacancies in Panchayati Raj Institutions were held on 17-02-2013. Elections were held for the Gram Panchayat Member Constituency of Lucknow-1 of Rampur Gram Panchayat under Mayabunder Tehsil and Gram Panchayat Member Constituency of Long Island-7 of Long Island Gram Panchayat under Rangat Tehsil.

As per the results declared today, both the seats have been won by the members of Congress Party. Saw Lashee won the Lucknow 1 constituency with 80% votes by securing 145 votes out of 181 votes while Shri Atwa Kerketta has won the seat of Long Island Gram Panchayat with 55% votes by securing 57 votes out of 103 votes.

The PCC President Kuldeep Rai Sharma has thanked the voters for keeping confidence on the party and also has congratulated the winners.

 

Port Blair, Feb. 19: All business operators manufacturing/processing, sorting, grading food articles, milk collection/chilling units, slaughter house, packaging, re-labeling, importer, storage/warehouse/cold storage operators, whole sale traders, retail traders, distributors/ supplier, Transporter of food, Food catering, dhaba, club/canteen, hotel/restaurant operators, hawkers, home based canteens, petty retailer of snacks/tea shops, temporary food stalls, milk producers/milk vendors, fish/meat/poultry shop/seller, Central Govt. and State Govt. institutions like Railways, Defence, Sea Ports, Airports, Guest Houses/Circuit Houses, State Departmental Canteens/Office canteen operators, Food arrangements in religious gathering/fairs etc shall not commence any food business without a valid License/Registration issued under Food Safety and Standard (Licensing and Registration of Food Business) Regulations,2011.

The Govt. of India has further extended the last date of issue of license/registration from 4th February, 2013 to 4th February, 2014. Therefore all Food Business Operators are requested to obtain license/registration from the Competent Authorities before the deadline of 4th Feb., 2014. The Heads of Departments/Offices are responsible for obtaining License/Registration for their departmental canteens/food stalls.

Car Nicobar, Feb. 19: A 3-day training on Disaster Management organised by the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), New Delhi in association with the District Disaster Management Authority, Nicobar began on 18th Feb. 2013. The Deputy Commissioner and the Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Shri P Jawahar inaugurated the programme in the EOC Conference hall at Car Nicobar.

All the local heads of department, Tribal Council representatives and members of NGOs were enrolled for the training programme. In his inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chairman of DDMA, Nicobar lauded the efforts taken by NIDM in response to his request to come over to Nicobar for imparting the training as well as for sponsoring the training programme under their own funds.

Speaking on the occasion, the Superintendent of Police, Nicobar district highlighted the vulnerability of the district, which demands for an immense focus on disaster preparedness and stressed the need to set up early warning system and emergency communication network in all the inhabited Island of Nicobar District.

The training started off with sharing of expectation by the officials, followed by modules on Disaster Management concepts, system in India, Disaster Risk profile of Nicobar Islands, vulnerabilities and capacities. It concluded with an experience sharing session.

This training programme will be the run-up to the forth coming mock drill exercise on 20th February 2013 during which the incident command system and the functioning of the Emergency support function system will be tested on ground.

This training programme is a milestone event for Nicobar district as it is for the first time the NIDM has come to the District for imparting training to district level officials. It will also set the foundation for the massive capacity building exercise planned by the DDMA, Nicobar under the yet to be launched District Mission on Disaster Preparedness.

 

Port Blair, Feb. 19: The Nicobar District Administration has distributed compensation worth Rs. 4.75 crores to 44 land owners in Campbell bay, whose lands were sub-merged in the Tsunami of 2004.

The Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay, Shri R.S. Mehra handed over the cheques at a function held at the Recreation Hall, Campbell Bay on 18th Feb 2013. 

To reach out to the infirm and elderly land owners who cannot come to Campbell Bay to collect their compensation, the Assistant Commissioner visited Vijay Nagar, Gandhi Nagar & Shastri Nagar areas and distributed the cheques to them at their doorsteps, as part of the LG’s Initiative “Prashasan Aapke Dwar”, which was well appreciated by the beneficiaries. 

The District Administration will distribute the compensation to other affected farmers in Campbell Bay in the coming days. Tsunami affected land owners were already briefed about the process of disbursement of compensation to allay their fears on the compensation disbursal process.

 

Port Blair, Feb. 18: On 27/04/12, the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India passed an order prohibiting pasting of any material including films of any VLT, on the safety glasses of any vehicle. In this connection, the A & N Police had issued press releases on several occasions requesting the vehicle owners /drivers to remove the tinted glasses from their respective vehicle. Thereafter, the traffic police/ local has started a drive against such tinted glasses and violators have been prosecuted.

All the owners/ drivers of motor vehicles are once again requested to remove their tinted glasses if any and also not to paste any material including films of any VLT on the safety glasses of their vehicles. The Traffic Police Would Implement this rule strictly with immediate effect.
