Port Blair, July 26: Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated on 26th July every year in honour of the Kargil War Heroes for their courage, valour and sacrifice, after the successful completion of Operation Vijay. The Kargil War was fought for more than sixty days on the icy heights and High Altitude Area of Western Ladakh.

On this date in 1999, India had become victorious by defeating Pakistan. On the 21st anniversary of the Kargil Vijay Diwas, Lt Gen Manoj Pande, AVSM, VSM, Commander-in-Chief, Andaman and Nicobar Command (CINCAN) laid a wreath and paid homage to the martyrs of the Kargil War in a solemn ceremony held at Brichgunj Military Station, Port Blair. During his interaction with the officers and men of Tri-Services Command, the CINCAN exhorted all to come together and take inspiration from the valour of our soldiers who took part in ‘OP VIJAY’ and to inculcate a sense of steadfast devotion towards the nation at all times. The event was also attended by a large number of veterans from the three services. Social distancing norms were maintained during the conduct of the ceremony.
