PBMC Procures Eight Containerized Tipper Mounted Autos for SWM

Port Blair, Dec. 23: The Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) has moved ahead in the Solid Waste Management system by introducing 08 containerized tipper mounted autos for SWM system. The new vehicles have three compartments for wet, dry and domestic hazardous waste each.

These Mechanized vehicles will be pressed into service for the primary door-to-door garbage collection by transportation of the segregated waste so collected to the Solid Liquid Resource (SLRM) Centers for further segregation & processing. This will ensure the compliance of the PBMC-Solid Waste (Handling & Management) Bye-laws, 2017 and the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 of MoEF&CC, GoI.

The mechanized vehicles were procured under Smart City Mission through open bidding in the Govt. e-Marketplace(GeM) Portal.

These 08 containerized tipper mounted autos will join the fleet of hired garbage carrying autos covering 41.22 sq.km area under PBMC.

The containerized tipper mounted autos will provide a sanitized mechanism for the workers while handling waste especially during rainy seasons.

While PBMC is striving hard to ensure segregation of waste at the household level, it needs full public co-operation in the task. Due to non-cooperative attitude of many people, their unsegregated waste has to be segregated manually by the sanitation workers in the open, which surely is an eyesore for the general public.

The general public is appealed to segregate waste at household level itself and hand over only the segregated waste to the door to door waste collecting teams of PBMC. Further the public is appealed to not throw any waste in the drains, streets, road sides or the green patches.

Let’s pledge to make our Port Blair city hygienic & beautiful.
