Port Blair, Aug 13: The Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (DAH&VS) has addressed a long-standing request from pet lovers and animal activists by launching its first evening OPD at Veterinary Hospital, Garacharma. The Veterinary Evening OPD at Veterinary Hospital, Garacharma was inaugurated by Shri L. Kumar, IAS, Secretary, AH&VS, A&N Administration in the presence of Shri V. Vetrivelu, Councillor, Ward No. 19, Smti Jyothi, Pradhan, Sippighat, farmers and staff of DAH&VS today.

In his address, the Secretary, AH&VS, appreciated the Director of AH &VS in starting the evening OPDs. He said that this will help people in and around area to avail Veterinarian advice for their Pets/Animals problems in evening hours also.

Dr. K. A. Naveen, Director, AH&VS briefed about the objectives of evening OPD services and modern equipments and machineries which are to be installed in near future. The SVO, Garacharma, Dr. Baljeet Kaur welcomed the gathering and provided an overview of the Hospital’s operations.

The Hospital, which already manages 400 OPD visits per day, expanded its hours based on recommendations from local ward members and residents. Garacharma area, being a hub for livestock and pets, has seen incidents of accidents in the evening hours requiring urgent Veterinary care. This new evening OPD aims to provide prompt veterinary services to animals in need during these critical hours.

The daily evening OPD from 4 pm to 11.55 pm enable office-goers to consult a Veterinarian after work. Till now, Veterinary Hospital, Garacharma was accessible for consultation only till 4 pm, although medical emergencies were tackled round-the-clock.
