Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 15: During the month of July and August this year, the Islanders had to encounter dearth of certain essential commodities. The business communities were worried as the normal berthing arrangement of coastal cargo ships commuting between Sri Vijaya Puram and Chennai got disturbed due to a new order passed by the Chairperson Chennai Port Authority (ChPA). Due this M/s TCI Seaways, which happens to be only Shipping Company commuting in the said route had to suffer for early berthing, timely loading and departure. On hearing about the problem, the Member of Parliament, Shri Bishnu Pada Ray rushed to Chennai to meet the Chairperson of the ChPA and discuss the matter for amicable settlement.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 15: In a decisive and concerted effort to reclaim critical public spaces and preserve the integrity of essential infrastructure, the District Administration, South Andaman, has launched an extensive eviction drive targeting unauthorized constructions obstructing key roadways and government land.

At Bhatubasti, significant encroachments including RCC boundary walls, illegal and unauthorized projections of shops were demolished along the road stretch at Bhatu Basti market within the Garacharama Revenue Village. These illegal structures had long disrupted public movement and undermined the intended function of the roadway. As a result of the demolition, nearly 200 square meters of road area were restored to their original condition, vastly improving traffic flow and enhancing pedestrian safety.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 15: The Andaman Avians Club recently celebrated the October Big Day and World Migratory Bird Day with a special birdwalk on Ross Island. The event attracted eight eager members who were guided by a team of expert birdwatchers.

During the walk, participants were delighted to spot approximately 16 different bird species, highlighting the Andaman Islands’ rich avian biodiversity. The event provided a valuable opportunity for members to connect with nature, learn about various bird species, and contribute to conservation efforts.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Oct. 15: A Medical Camp was organized for the elderly persons at Ullas- an Old Age Home for Women at Attam Pahad under the Directorate of Social Welfare in coordination with NP-NCD, National Health Mission, Directorate of Health Services today. The camp was aimed at providing essential health screenings, medical consultations and awareness on lifestyle diseases that primarily affect the elderly population.
