Port Blair, May 21: To achieve minimum movement of PDS beneficiaries for maintaining social distancing during the COVID-19 situation, the UT Administration has decided to issue foodgrains (Rice) for two months (June & July 2020) in one go during June 2020 itself in the entire UT. All the ration card holders have been informed to purchase the foodgrains as per their entitlement for two months in June 2020.

Due to the difficult terrain of these places, Soren said a viable solution would be to lift them by air. He mentioned a similar letter written on May 12 requesting permission to airlift and bring back the people stranded in Andaman and Nicobar islands.
New Delhi, May 21: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah requesting permission to operate chartered flights to evacuate the state's migrant workers stranded in Ladakh and in a few states in the northeast. This is the second such letter written by Soren requesting permission to run chartered flights.

1) SANITATION WORKS :-
- a) DESILTING OF MAJOR DRAINS:-
PBMC well before the onset of Monsoon has engaged its sanitation workers and machineries to desilt all major and minor drains across 24 wards. Desilting of drains is a crucial aspect of monsoon preparedness to arrest overflow of drains.

Port Blair, May 21: As part of the economic measures under Atma Nirbhar Bharat (ANB) scheme announced by the Government of India to mitigate the hardships faced by the stranded migrants due to lockdown imposed as per COVID19 guidelines, the Central Government allocated Rice and Chana to be distributed free of cost for two months. The food Corporation of India provided Rice to this Department whereas Chana whole shall be made available by NAFED at the earliest. According to this scheme, those stranded migrants who are not covered under Public Distribution System i.e. not issued with Ration Cards in this UT shall be provided with Rice @ 5Kg per person and Chana whole @ 1Kg per household free of cost for two months (i.e. May and June, 2020).
