Port Blair, Oct. 19: The ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Andaman organized a programme for online participation in Kisan Samman Sammelan on 17th Oct 2022 at KVK, Sippighat by inviting farmers, farmwomen and public representatives. The online programm was inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi at Indian Agricultural Research Institute at PUSA, New Delhi. Union agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar, Union fertiliser and chemicals minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Union minister of state for fertilisers and chemicals Bhagwanth Khuba, Union ministers of state for Agriculture Kailash Choudhary and Shobha Karandhlaje and other senior officials also participated in the event.

On this occasion the Prime Minister also inaugurated 600 Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samruddhi Kendras (PMKSK) under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilisers. The Prime Minister also launched Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Urvarak Pariyojana - One Nation One Fertiliser. During the event, the Prime Minister also released the 12th instalment amount of Rs. 16,000 crores under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) through Direct Benefit Transfer. The Prime Minister also inaugurated the Agri Startup Conclave and Exhibition. During the event, the Prime Minister also launched ‘Indian Edge’, an e-magazine on fertiliser.

Shri Madan Mohan Joydhar, a very progressive farmer from Chouldhari was invited as the chief guest during the programme.

Speaking on the occasion he motivated the participants to take integrated farming system for sustainable livelihood. Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Pr. Scientist & Head, KVK in his key note address briefed about the activities of KVK and also highlighted the present need for staring agripreneurship in the Islands.

Dr. N. Bommayasamy SMS (Agronomy) and Dr Pooja Kapoor, SMS (Home Sc) also spoke on Natural farming and Importance of Value addition on the occasion. Dr. Y. Ramakrishna& Shri Tanmai Paul distributed seedling to the participants. A total of 72 farmers, farmwomen and others were benefitted from the programme.

The programme was organized under the guidance the guidance and supervision of Dr Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director CIARI, Port Blair and Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Pr. Scientist & Head, KVK.

Port Blair, Oct. 19: Marine Litter poses a vast and growing threat to the marine and coastal environment. Around 8 million items of litter enter the marine environment every day endangering the species in the ocean.

Port Blair, Oct. 18: The Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to operate a daily direct ferry between Port Blair and Long Island to promote tourism in Long Island and generate employment.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament mentioned that post pandemic, Tourism is slowly picking up in Andaman & Nicobar Islands and the number of tourists visiting these Islands are also increasing.

Port Blair, Oct. 19: Heavy rain (07-11 cm) is likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on Oct. 20, 21 & 22. Due to likely formation of low pressure area during next 24 hours and likely intensification of the system, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till Oct. 22.
