Sri Vijaya Puram, April 4: April 5th marks National Maritime Day in India. It was on this day in 1919 that a landmark event in Indian navigation history occurred—‘SS Loyalty’, the first ship owned by M/s Scindia Steam Navigation Company, sailed from Bombay to London, establishing India's entry into the international maritime arena. The first celebration of National Maritime Day was held on 5thApril, 1964.

As we commemorate the 62nd National Maritime Day on 5th April, 2025, I extend my warmest greetings to all stakeholders in the maritime community. This year, we celebrate this momentous occasion under the theme "Samriddh Sagar- Viksit Bharat Yevam Neel Arth Aur Harit Vikas Ke Liya Yuva (Prosperous Seas- Developed India and Youth for Blue Economy & Green Growth)."

On this National Maritime Day, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the vast and invaluable oceans that surround us. The theme for this year serves as a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect marine ecosystems while simultaneously harnessing their immense potential for sustainable growth.
