Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29: The Directorate of Rural Development (RD), PRIs and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of Andaman & Nicobar Administration, is making sincere efforts for making Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2024 as a step towards Clean and Green UT. In a remarkable display of community spirit, creativity and commitment to cleanliness, various activities were successfully conducting across various Gram Panchayats of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This event witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, NGOs, CSOs, Line Department, students, and community leaders. Under the guidance of Shri Uma Sankar Sarkar, Pradhan a dingy was arranged and a beach clean-up activity at Paschimsagar Beach along with ZPM, PRIs, Sanitation Staff, DRM, VLW, GRS and local youth.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29: World Rabies Day 2024 was observed on September 28 along with rest of the world in Andaman and Nicobar Islands too. As part of the observance, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services orgainsed awareness campaigns throughout the territory through all the Veterinary institutions. A&N Islands is free from Rabies which is a boon as the disease is fatal. Rabies is a viral disease and transmissible by bite of rabies infected dog.

Ayyappan Writes to Amit Shah to Restore the Name of Port Blair
Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 27: The CPI (M), A&N State Organizing Committee has strongly opposed the name change of Port Blair city. Opposing the move, the CPI (M), Secretary, Shri D. Ayyappan has marked a letter to the Home Minister, Govt. of India, Shri Amit Shah demanding restoration of the name of Port Blair.
In his letter, Ayyappan said, “I draw your kind attention to the strong protests and large-scale discontent among the people of Andaman & Nicobar Islands over your decision to change the name of Port Blair to Sri Vijaya Puram. The decision to change the name of Port Blair was taken unilaterally by the Central Government, there being no demand from any quarter in these islands. The islanders here, who are innocent and have the tendency to tolerate any kind of injustice and adversity at the hands of the rulers, since colonial times, never thought of changing the name of the only town in the islands.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Sept. 29: The Garacharma Site Office under Head Quarter Division of Electricity Department will start functioning from its new Site Office located on the 2nd Floor of Sub-Division Office Building of Electricity Building at Pathargudda Junction with effect from Oct.1, 2024.
The establishment of Garacharma Site Office is a part of the ongoing commitment to improve the service delivery, accessibility and approach to the consumers. This Site Office will provide power related services in a fully-fledged manner including release of new connections, billing & payments, customer support and complaint resolution.

The purpose of this initiative is to seek opinion, ideas or suggestions and hold regular discussions/ meetings with persons having knowledge on different sectors/ departments and subsequently taking up concrete points with concerned ministry for benefit of the Island people.
