Ajoy Bairagi has written a letter to the Director, State Transport Services, Andaman & Nicobar Administration requesting him to consider plying of busses operated by STS as well as private busses on fixed schedule on regular short intervals for the convenience of the general public.

Port Blair, July 1: Recognizing the noble act of a young island girl for her selfless act to save a precious life, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt Governor, A&N Islands and Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency today awarded an ‘on the spot’ LG’s Commendation Certificate to Ms. Aksa Abraham. This is the fourth such commendation conferred by the Lt. Governor in the past four years.       

Port Blair, July 1: In a swift sea - air coordinated Search and Rescue Operation, Indian Coast Guard located and rescued the distressed fishing boat ‘RSN-TWO’ with 07 crew onboard off Tillanchong Island on 01 Jul 21.

The Indian Coast Guard Regional Headquarters at Port Blair received an unregistered DAT (Distress Alert Transmitter) alert from DAT ID-85802 at around 1130 hrs on 30 Jun 21. Since the alert was activated from an unregistered DAT, the details of the boat and its owner were not available with Indian Coast Guard. The information was immediately shared with Fisheries authorities with a request to provide the details of person/boat issued with said DAT.

Candavelou, Commissioner–cum–Secretary (Health) and Dr. Omkar Singh, Director of Health Services today visited Car Nicobar.

Port Blair, July 1: The Regional News Unit (RNU) of All India Radio, Port Blair completed 46 years of prolific service to islanders today. The unit has been serving to inform, educate and update islanders since its inception in 1975, living up to its motto- “Bahujan Hitaya: Bahujan Sukhaya” which means “Welfare of mass: wellbeing of mass”.

The RNU started its journey on 1st July 1975 with an aim to provide all important information, in time, with utmost credibility, related with the daily life of common islanders. Since then the RNU is making islanders aware and educating them through news. Having a wide network spread across the whole islands from Diglipur in the north to Campbell Bay in the remote south, it keeps every islander updated. The locals are well aware of 'Pradeshik Samachar' and share a special bond with it. The FM has helped in reaching more and more people since its arrival. The news unit has proven its importance once again during the unprecedented time of COVID-19. The RNU had rendered its uninterrupted services especially during the lockdown. The AIR News has received an overwhelming response since the last one and half year amid Covid-19.
