Port Blair, Feb 16: The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands have expressed serious concern over the sky-rocketing airfare in Port Blair-Mainland sector during March, April and May due to the shortage of flight services owing to the re-surfacing of the Runway and other airport related work by the Andaman and Nicobar Command. In a letter addressed to the Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India, the General Secretary of the Association, Shri R. Rajendran has told that the re-surfacing work being carried out in the one and only runway at Port Blair which is to continue till May 2023, has resulted in the increase of flight fares in Port Blair-Mainland sector and the common public as well as Govt. servants badly affected due to this.

Car Nicobar, Feb. 16: In order to augment and support the health infrastructure in the Nicobar Island, two Ambulances were provided by ANIIDCO, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration. The Ambulance was flagged off today and was handed over to the District Health Society, Nicobar District and is placed in BJR Hospital, Car Nicobar and Primary Health Centre, Campbell Bay. This will immensely benefit the local residents of Nicobar District and enhance the Health Department’s capability in dealing with any emergency situation in a prompt manner.

Port Blair, Feb 16: The Government of India is committed towards Anaemia Mukt Bharat and a worm-free future for the children of India. Worm infestation impair the nutritional status of the children. The nutritional impairment has significant impact on growth and physical development. In order to reduce the load of intestinal worms which is a major cause of Anaemia and related morbidity in the country, the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare in co-ordination with Department of Women and Child Development and Department of School Education and Literacy, Government of India has initiated National De-Worming Day (NDD) all over the country, wherein, all children and adolescents from 1-19 years of age are given de-worming tablet through the platform of Schools and Anganwadi Centres.

Port Blair, Feb. 16: The Directorate of Tribal Welfare, A&N Administration deputed two young Nicobari artisans to participate in the mega National Tribal Festival – ‘Aadi Mahotsav’ which was inaugurated by Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi today. A dedicated stall for Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been allotted to showcase the traditional Nicobari tribal arts which will endeavour to boost and promote the local tribal products. It will motivate other tribal youth to come forward to showcase their skill. The festival will continue up to Feb. 27.
