Port Blair, Aug. 30: A State Level Mock Disaster Management Exercise (SLME-2024) conducted today by the Directorate of Disaster Management, A&N Administration in coordination with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), INCOIS, ANC, NDRF, District Administrations and other Emergency Support Functionaries (ESFs) of A&N Islands by creating a scenario on Earthquake followed by Tsunami. The objective of this exercise was to test Incident Response System (IRS) and the level of preparedness of all stakeholders in A&N Islands.

Port Blair, Aug 30: The Andaman Ship Owners Association (ASOA) is deeply grateful and appreciate of the rapid and effective response from the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (North East) based out of Kolkata following the unfortunate sinking of the vessel ITT Puma. The vessel, owned by one of ASOA's members, was enroute from Kolkata to Port Blair when the incident occurred.

Port Blair, Aug 30: Swift action by the Coast Guard component of the Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) averted a potential maritime disaster and ensured the safety of MV EFES and its 11 crew members.

On 19 Aug 24, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Port Blair, received a relayed distress call from MV Anael, reporting a fire in the machinery compartment of MV EFES. As the vessel was 500 km from land, MRCC immediately diverted the nearest vessel, MV Jag Rani, to provide assistance until ICG units reached the scene. A Coast Guard Dornier aircraft was also launched from Port Blair to monitor the situation and assess the extent of the damage. The aircraft confirmed the distressed vessel’s position and provided vital information to the ICG. The fire was completely extinguished on the evening of 19 Aug 24, however, MV EFES suffered a loss of propulsion and electric power, as the machinery compartment was totally damaged in the fire, causing the vessel to drift.

Port Blair, Aug. 30: The Child Helpline 1098, under the Directorate of Social Welfare, conducted an awareness programme at Government Girls Senior Secondary School to highlight the critical services provided by Child Helpline 1098. The session was inaugurated by Smt. Beena Das, Helpline Administrator (CHL).

The Child Helpline 1098 is an emergency Toll-free number that operates 24/7. It is a Scheme under Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India. The Child Helpline, under the Mission Vatsalya Scheme is integrated with the Emergency Response Support System 112 (ERSS-112).
