Mayabunder, May 27: Police is continuously conducting search for illicit liquor and handia in jungles and destroying them. On 26th May, a search team of PS Rangat found and destroyed 14 tins of Lahan in the jungle. Based on an information, a police team conducted search in Shyamkund jungle area of Bakultala, in which they found 14 tins dull of fermented Lahan. The police team destroyed it on the spot itself. Since the liquor shops are closed, some people have been trying to use this as an opportunity to push handia and illicit liquor into the market. Two such individuals were arrested in PS Kadamtala on 27th May for the possession of Handia. The persons were booked for the violation of Excise Regulation and a total of around 20 Kg. Handia was recovered from them.

Port Blair, May 27: The Andaman Association of Tour Operators has appealed the Lt. Governor and the Chief Secretary, A&N Administration to provide relief to the tourist service providers who have been impacted by the recent Cyclone Yaas. Shri M Vinod, President of the Association in a letter mentioned that Cyclone Yaas had hit the islands and caused damages to the boats anchored in the harbor of Junglighat and blew the boat ticket counters in the Water Sports Complex, Dive Shops and other shops at North Bay. The financial implications of the damages are substantial.

Port Blair, May 27: The vaccination drive is continuing smoothly in A&N Islands and so far, a total of 4739 eligible people in the age group of 18 to 44 years were vaccinated till date.  As per the data available, altogether, 290 persons in the age group of 18 to 44 years were vaccinated in South Andaman, 171 persons in North & Middle Andaman and 20 persons were vaccinated in Nicobar District today.
