Sri Vijaya Puram, March 21: A meeting on UT Seed Sub Committee for Agricultural & Horticultural Crops was held under the Chairmanship of Ms. Pallavi Sarkar, IAS, Secretary (Agriculture.), A & N Administration at Secretariat yesterday to consider the release of 18 new varieties of crops for the UT, which was developed by the Central Island Agricultural Research Institute (CIARI).The proposal of crop varieties submitted for consideration in the UT Seed Sub-Committee includes: Rice (Six varieties), Green gram (Five varieties), Black gram (Two varieties), Brinjal (Two varieties), Malabar Tamarind (Two varieties), and Bayleaf (One variety).

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 21: Fodder Development Scheme is being implemented by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services with the focus to improve the availability of nutritious fodder and feed for livestock that contributes to increased milk production. For the propagation of related technologies in the field a day long demonstration on Azolla Cultivation and Hydroponic Fodder Cultivation was organized by the Department at Hut Bay Little Andaman on March 19, 2025 in association with UT-ATMA.

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 21: The Tourism Department, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), Bhubaneswar, has launched a 12-day skill development training program on tour guiding from 12/03/2025 to 24/03/2025 including weekends. The Department’s initiative, focused on enhancing guiding skills while introducing Astro-Tourism as an emerging segment in tourism activity in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Sri Vijaya Puram, March 21: District Administration, South Andaman has taken strict action against violators who were indulged in illegal extraction and were dumping earth in contravention of Land Revenue Regulations.

During a recent field inspection, the revenue officials found unauthorized extraction and dumping of earth at Guptara Village under Ferrargunj Tehsil. As a result, a fine of Rs 2,00,000/- (Rupees Two Lakhs only) was imposed on the violators against illegal extraction and dumping of earth.
