Port Blair, Oct. 17: Towards ensuring continued access to adequate quantity of potable water in extreme dry season to remote areas of Afra Bay and Macachua in Great Nicobar Island, APWD has successfully completed 2 tanks of capacity 10.66 lakh litres each. Every year, during summer, the tribal inhabitants residing in permanent shelters at Afra Bay and Macachua faces acute scarcity of water due to drying up of wells/available spring sources there. Both these places are accessible only through mechanized boat or engine dinghy by sea.  Due to which, every year, potable water had to be transported from Campbell Bay to Afra Bay and Macachua by boat or engine dingy during extreme peak summer for consumption of the residents.

Port Blair, Oct. 17: Our country has enacted stringent laws to combat the scourge of child marriage. But despite having strict laws, every year around 15 lakh under-age girls fall victim to child marriage. Child marriage has been a major hurdle in their holistic development like education, health and security. According to government figures, on an average only one case of child marriage is registered each year in every district. This is a matter of deep concern.

Port Blair, Oct. 17: JSS South Andaman organised an event by planting of saplings under Swacchata Campaign at Govt. Senior Secondary School, Rangachang on 17/10/22. Saplings were handed over to teachers and students by BOM member Mr. Vijay Kumar. The students enthusiastically planted the saplings in the school compound. Students were briefed upon the importance and benefits of afforestation. Altogether 80 students had participated.

Port Blair, Oct. 17: An awareness programme on Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) was organised by the Department of Fisheries at Mithakhari Gram Panchayat today. The programme was attended by Shri Mohd. Safiq, Pradhan, GP Mithakhari, Shri Farooque, Asst. Fisheries Officer, Smti Prema Khujur, Up-Sarpanch, Smti Salina Abha Minj, PRI Member, Smti Khadeeja, PRI Member apart from the fishers of the area.

Port Blair, Oct. 17: This is to inform to the passengers/general public that due to Administrative reasons the scheduled departure time of the vessel MV Kalighat for Campbell Bay via Little Andaman, Car Nicobar, Chowra, Teressa, Katchal & Nancowry (all ports) on 18.10.2022 at 1000 Hrs from Haddo Wharf has been revised. Now the vessel will sail for Campbell Bay via all ports on the same day at 1400 Hrs instead of 1000 Hrs from Haddo Wharf.
