Port Blair, March 1: International Women’s Day will be celebrated by Chinmaya Mission, Inner-wheel Club of Port Blair and PANKH on Sunday 7th March from 9.00 am onwards at Mission Auditorium. The counseling and yoga sessions on healthy life & vegetables cutting, Rangoli and Recipe completion will be held from 9 am onwards. For recipe competition participants has to bring any prepared vegetarian dish. From 11.45 am to 12.30 pm felicitation and prize distribution programme will be held. A special “Yogendra Kumar Awasthy Memorial Award” also will be given to women towards dedicated work and honesty.

Port Blair, Feb 28: The modern world is known for its umpteen miracles performed with the aid of technology. However, when it comes to solid waste management, even these miracles have not been able to cope up with the ever-increasing population and corresponding waste accumulation. Many highly useful but still inadequate strides towards the goal of managing the solid waste in water have been taken but it doesn’t always take a miracle to solve a problem. Sometimes a simple NET is enough.

Port Blair, Feb 28: In continuation of its ClothShare initiative, a free Cloth distribution program was organised by Humane Touch at ShorePoint village on 28th February 2020 at 9:30 am.
The program started with the address of K Naushad Ali , Executive Member , Humane Touch who welcomed the gathering and briefed about various social and public issues taken up by the organization. Shri P Mujeeb Rehman, President Humane Touch highlighted the importance of Clotheshare program and about the achievements of this initiative.

Port Blair, Feb 28: The Indian Coast Guard conducted IMO Level-I Course for the first responders from Feb 22 to 26 at Port Blair. The course was designed to bring awareness on preparedness and response techniques related to Marine Oil Pollution as a first respondent. Besides 03(three) officer and 15(Fifteen) personnel of the Indian Coast Guard,02(two)Personnel from stakeholder i.eThe Disaster Management and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL)wereparticipated in the course. During the course, participants were exposed to extensive practical training on handling of oil spill response equipment. An exposure was also provided on health and safety precautions to be exercised during such operations. Wildlife is also prone to high casualties during any oil spill and the methods required for recovery and rehabilitation of wild life were also imparted during the training by the experts from the Department of Environment &Forest.

Port Blair, Feb 27: The Hon'ble President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, accompanied by the First Lady of India, Shrimati Savita Kovind arrived to a warm welcome in Swaraj Dweep today (Feb. 27). They were received by the Lt Governor, A&N Islands & Vice Chairman, Islands Development Agency, Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), as soon as they alighted from defence helicopter at Swaraj Dweep helipad.
