Port Blair, March 15: On the Occasion of International Women’s Day, Ms Sunita Das, an island girl, daughter of Shri Ajit Das from Kadamtala was awarded ‘Education Excellence Award 2021’ in the category of “Best Innovative Learning Tools” at EEA Virtual Conference, New Delhi on 8th March 2021.

The award was for her efforts towards creating a learning centre for the tribal (Garasiya and Bhil) rural youth of Udaipur District, Rajasthan. As a development practitioner; she always wanted to learn new things and experience new places. After completing her studies, she got an opportunity to work with SBI Foundation as a Rural Development Fellow in Udaipur District, Rajasthan. With her innovative idea, she has opened a door to the digital world to the tribal rural youth of Rajasthan and created a learning centre with the help of village institution. She also initiated the setting up of a mini library and bought a desktop in the centre and trained them in computer education.

The new branch on islands inaugurated on 6th of March 2021 aims to provide classes for students preparing for Medical and Engineering Entrance Examinations apart from offering NCERT-Foundation-level courses. Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL), the national leader in test preparation services, on 6th March 2021, inaugurated its first centre in the city of Port Blair in Andaman & Nicobar Island.

Port Blair, March 15: The services of vehicle ferry vessel MV North Bay operating between Middle Strait and Baratang was withdrawn on 15.03.2021, due to unforeseen entangling of rope in its propeller. Due to above sudden withdrawal of vehicle ferry vessel, the passenger and vehicular transhipments through the vehicle ferry vessels in the above route got disrupted,  which is deeply regretted by this Directorate. 

Port Blair, March 15: The International Women’s Day 2021 was celebrated by ISMAT (Islanders Social Movement for Awareness and Training) – a women’s initiative on 13th March  2021 at Ummat Public School, Middle Point, Port Blair. Around 65 women from various walks of life participated along with ISMAT members.

Ms. Anjali Sherawat, Secretary Municipal Council & Urban Development, Director, ANIIDCO was the chief guest for the occasion. The celebration was marked by the felicitation of five “Women of Substance” by the Chief Guest. Smti. Shanta Lachman Singh, Social Activist & Ex. Chairperson Municipal Council, Smt. Ayesha Majeed, Social Worker and Chairperson, Tribal Council, Nancowry, Smti. Nina Thomas, Social Worker from Car Nicobar, Smti. Rasheeda Bibi, Pradhan, Hope Town and Smti Baby Farida, Ex Chair Person, Municipal Council were felicitated by shields and certificates for their selfless contribution to the welfare of people in these Islands.

Minister Clears that Central Share of Funds Have been Exhausted for the Current Financial Year

Port Blair, March 12: The Minister of Women & Child Development and Textiles, Govt. of India, Smti Smriti Zubin Irani replying to a letter of the Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma on non-release of Government of India’s Share under Anganwadi Service Scheme has cleared that the central share of funds have already been exhausted for the current financial year.
