Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 4: As part of the ‘Fit India Week’ 2024, a Poster Competition was conducted by Sports Authority of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on the topic ‘FIT India, Healthy India’ or ‘Sports for Tribals’. The last date for submission of entries was 24th Dec, 2024. Over hundred entries were received from various Schools like GDMS, GMSS Mayabunder, Carmel, MGIS, JNVs & NCS. All the submitted entries were informative and beautifully presented. The winners were selected based on originality of the ideas. The winners will get attractive cash prizes and the prizes will be sent to their respective schools by post.

Shri Bishnu Pada Ray, Member of Parliament, A & N Islands has deeply mourned the sad demise of Smti Geeta Ghosh, w/o S.P. Ghosh, R/o NABARD Colony, Sri Vijaya Puram at the age of 77 years on 3rd of January 2025. She was one of the founder members of Bharatiya Janata Party in the A & N Islands and a very active leader, who worked sincerely for growth of BJP in the Islands during early years.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 5: The Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, has extended the last date for updating e-KYC for the left out Ration Card beneficiaries upto 31.10.2024. However, it is noticed that despite repeated request and all possible effort, there are considerable number of AAY & PHH beneficiaries who have not yet approached their Fair Price Shops or the Department of CS&CA or respective Supply Units functioning in the inter islands for updating their e-KYC.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 5: World Braille Day was observed, at the Block Level Resource Room in GSSS Diglipur under Inclusive Education, Samagra Shiksha on Jan. 4, 2025. The event was attended by Children with Special Needs (CwSN) and their parents. The program which was aimed at inspiring children and their families by highlighting the life and achievements of Louis Braille was conducted under the coordination of Smti S. Vijaya, BRP (CwSN).

Sri Vijaya Puram, Jan. 5: State Transport Authority has been receiving complaints from general public regarding plying of Autorickshaw without putting/switching on the fare meters and charging exorbitant fares by the drivers. Section 74 (2)(viii) & Section 96(xx) of the MV Act 1988 mandates that in case of Autorickshaw/Taxi, a fare meter shall be fitted and maintained in proper working order. This has been informed to the general public as well as Autorickshaw owners/drivers through releases in local media on many previous occasions. The Autorickshaw Permit holders have been informed once again to refrain from such practices as repeated violations will warrant actions for cancellation of Permits. Enforcement drives will be carried out to ensure the strict compliance of the permit conditions.
