A&N Administration Calls it as Historic and Transformative Step

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 21: In a historic and transformative step, the Jarawa tribe of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been brought into India’s democratic fold with their enrollment in the electoral roll. For the first time, members of the Jarawa community will participate in the electoral process, marking a significant milestone in the nation's democratic journey.

Diglipur, Nov. 21: On the occasion of 71st All India Cooperative Week celebrations-2024, a programme was conducted at Diglipur on the topic “Transforming Cooperatives into Enterprises for Development of PACS” and “The role of Cooperatives in building ‘Viksit Bharat’”.

The programme was graced by Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, A&N State Cooperative Union and the representatives of PACS.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 21: The fourth edition of pan India Coastal Defence Exercise 'Sea Vigil-24' was conducted by Headquarters Andaman and Nicobar Command from 1321 Nov 24 for Andaman & Nicobar region. The aim of the exercise was to comprehensively validate the efficacy of the Coastal Defence response across the Andaman & Nicobar region against threats arising from the sea whilst catering for latest developments in technology and tactics in maritime warfare. In addition, the exercise aims to sustain a balanced focus between Coastal Defence and Coastal Security in the islets. The desired outcome of the exercise was to assess own readiness state and identify gaps (if any) in the existing defence mechanism. Interagency coordination was also assessed by activation of the complete Coastal Defence Mechanism.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 21: The Commanding Officer & Chairperson of Naval Kindergarten (NKG) School along with Headmistress and students, called on Admiral D K Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), Hon’ble Lt. Governor, A&N Islands and Vice-Chairman, Islands Development Agency today at Raj Niwas to invite the Hon’ble Lt. Governor as the Chief Guest for the upcoming celebrations marking 50 years of NKG Vijay Baugh & 25 years of NKG Minnie Bay, scheduled for next week. These schools with a 40% approx. enrolment of children of non-uniform fraternity benefit the civil society of A&N Islands & students significantly contribute to the development of a progressive citizenry.

Sri Vijaya Puram, Nov. 21: Zoological Survey of India, Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre is conducting a Three-Day Training workshop on Coastal and Marine Biodiversity of Island Ecosystem under the Training of Other Stakeholders sponsored by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India to be held during 21st – 23rd November 2024.
