Port Blair, Feb 14: The Rural Development Department, A&N Islands has received World Bank Performance Grant for Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) from the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt.  of India with an objective to equip the basic capacities of the Gram Panchayat for effective carrying out of Door to Door collection of segregated solid waste and to bring about a behavioural change and social responsibility in rural areas. To achieve the above objective, the department, distributed Wheel Barrows and Household colour coded dustbins in a programme conducted in the Community Hall, Chouldari.

Port Blair, Feb 14: The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of Indira Gandhi National Open University Regional Centre, Port Blair Building was held today near AIR Port Cargo Complex-Port Blair. The Foundation stone was laid virtually by the Hon’ble Minster of Education, Govt. of India, Shri. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ in presence of Hon’ble Vice- Chancellor of IGNOU Prof. Nageshwar Rao, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Satyakam, Dr. Jitendra Dev Gangwar, Finance Officer, Finance & Accounts Division, Dr.M. Shanmugam, Director, Regional Services Division, Er. Sudheer Reddy, Chief Project Officer, Construction and Maintenance Division and Assistant Engineers of CPWD, Port Blair and other dignitaries.

Port Blair, Feb 12: The Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the  Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman to make arrangements to construct a rest room with basic amenities of drinking water and toilet for the ATR Truck Drivers/Helpers at suitable location in Ferrargunj to facilitate them to take rest.  He informed that they are carrying various goods items through heavy goods vehicles to North & Middle Andaman on ATR to maintain supply chain of essential goods and other materials for the residents including Govt. departments in the North & North Andaman.  For this purpose, they leave Port Blair at mid-night so that there is no traffic conjunction on ATR.  These drivers go and halt at Ferrargunj to catch morning convoy. If a rest room is constructed at Ferrargunj, they will take rest till their movement on ATR convoy which would be a great relief for them.
