Port Blair, Feb 22: Andaman Sangeet Academy (ASA) Junglighat, Port Blair celebrated the “23rd International Mother Language Day” on 21st February 2021 Sunday. The programme has been arranged Kusumkamini Awas, Garacharma, Port Blair at 5.30pm. Shri Tapas Kumar Das, President of Academy was the Chief Guest and Shri S. K. Singh, Retired Principal, Education Department, A&N Administration, Port Blair was chief speaker in this cultural programme.

Port Blair, Feb 22: The School of Inter- Disciplinary and Trans-Disciplinary Studies of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched a new programme- M.Sc. in Environmental Science (MSCENV). The main objective of the programme is to emphasize the relevance of the usefulness  of environmental science from application perspective, to equip the learners with knowledge and understanding of the physical, chemical and biological processes of the environment, to expose the learners with theoretical principles involved in air-water and soil pollution and monitoring systems, to emphasize the principle and practices involved in sustainable natural resources management and environmental management and to impart knowledge and understanding  in impact assessment, environmental audit and laws.

Port Blair, Feb 21: The Member of Parliament, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor, A&N Islands to shift the Tehsil office Rangat from the existing hill place near APWD Guest House to Panchayat Samity Office Rangat for convenient to the general public. He informed that due to location of Tehsil office Rangat in a hill place, the general public residing under its jurisdiction i.e. Baratang, Kadamtala, Kasulyanagar, Bakultala, Rangat, Long Island, Betapur including old age persons, divyangjans etc. are facing great inconvenience to visit the Tehsil office by walk for various services such as revenue related matters and other social sector schemes of government due to transportation problems.

Port Blair, Feb 21: Keeping in line with the philosophy of zero tolerance against the sale of narcotic drugs in the South Andaman District, Special Teams of PS Humfrygunj and PS Hutbay seized 650 grams & 630 grams respectively of ‘Methamphetamine’ an illicit drug from two drug peddlers separately. 

On 19/02/2021, a credible information was received from an informer that one person possessing illicit Methamphetamine drug is looking out for customers to sell in Guptapara area. Acting swiftly on this information, the PS Humfrygunj team reached Guptapara and the suspected person was identified. On searching his bag, 650 grams of Methamphetamine was found from his possession. The drug was seized and the accused identified as Aurobindo Biswas S/o Shri Govindo, (21Yrs), residing at Rama Krishna Pur, Little Andaman was arrested on the spot under relevant sections of law. Accordingly, a case U/s 22 (C) of NDPS Act 1985 has been registered against the accused. The entire raid took place under the Supervision of Shri Kalaivanan R, IPS, SDPO (Bambooflat).

Port Blair, Feb 21: The Youth Wing of Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry in collaboration with Industries Department conducts Startup Boot Camp PITCH 2021 on fostering innovation and entrepreneurship among the students involving all the Higher education institutes viz. Colleges of A&N Islands as well as Senior Secondary Classes of Schools to bring out ideas and innovations amongst the youth. The Government of India has started various competitions like Atal New India Challenges, Smart India Hackathon and various Startup events to encourage innovations and competitions at School and College level.
