Port Blair, Feb 21: Motivated by the UN secretary general Antonio Guterres’s call in April last year for a halt to “horrifying global surge in domestic violence” during the lockdown, Women’s Wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has launches a 10-day ‘Strong Family, Strong Society’ nationwide campaign with a view to establishing peace within the family and the society across the country. The campaign will run between February 19 and 28, 2021.

Port Blair, Feb 19: Five Indian fishermen hailing from Andaman & Nicobar Islands were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard after the engine of their fishing boat failed mid sea. The fishers along with their boat were tracked by the Indian Coast Guard after a distress call was sounded.

It is learned that the five fishermen had left for fishing from Andamans few days ago before the incident took place. Sources inform that all five of them have been rescued and safely bought to Mark Fort in the Karaikal District of Puducherry, where the Fisheries Dy. Director of the district had met them today and found the fishers in good health.

Port Blair, Feb 19: The organic virgin coconut oil produced by the Nicobari tribal community is now available for sale in Port Blair. The oil is being produced by the Nicobari community under a project called The Nicobars, which is meant to benefit the community while exploring ways and means to spread the benefits of the tribal knowledge to the world.

Port Blair, Feb 19: A Girl belonging to tribal community of Teressa was allegedly raped and made pregnant by a non-tribal man named Ravi working in a private firm in the Island. This horrible incident has shocked the tribals of Teressa, the Tribal Council now demanding a stern action against the accused.

Port Blair, Feb 19: Deen Dayal Upadhyay Grameen Kaushalya Yojna (DDU-GKY) is a centrally sponsored Scheme of the Ministry of Rural Development that aims to skill the underserved, rural youth in order to provide them with a regular source of income. DDU-GKY is a skilling and placement initiative with the objective to “transform rural poor youth into an economically independent and globally relevant workforce”.
