Port Blair, May 9: The Member of Parliament, A&N Islands, Shri Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to sanction 3 (three) PSA Oxygen Plants for three remote districts namely North & Middle Andaman, South Andaman, Nicobar District out of 500 PSA Oxygen Plants sanctioned and 100 (One hundred) portable oxygen concentrators out of one lakh portable oxygen concentrators sanctioned under PM CARES fund, to Andaman & Nicobar Islands. These Plants and Concentrators are to be used in case of any emergency to save the Islanders. 

Port Blair, May 9: The Secretary (IP&T), Shri Sunil Kumar Singh briefing media on COVID-19 today said that during the Rapid Antigen Test conducted on flight passengers, no COVID positive cases have been reported. This is the first time, since mandatory RAT conducted on incoming passengers since April 16, 2021 that out of the 224 passengers tested, no one has been found positive. The concerning part is that during the test conducted on inter Island bound passengers, out of the 66 passengers, 4 positive cases were detected, he said. Mentioning that it’s a matter of concern, he appealed to the people to minimize their movement to protect themselves and their families from the transmission of the virus.

Port Blair, May 9: In a view to contain Covid-19, South Andaman district administration has declared containment zones as per the guidelines issued by Government of India. Shri Suneel Anchipaka, Deputy Commissioner (SA) along with SDM(SA), AC(HQ), AC(S), AC(L) and AC(U/T) visited the containment zones at Lillypur at Haddo, Dairyfarm and Old Pahargaon.

Port Blair, May 9: An Ambulance was gifted to the Directorate of Health Services on Saturday 8th May 2021 by IND-AUST Group, the Owner of passenger ship M.V. Coral Queen.

The One Force Ambulance is air conditioned and can carry Oxygen bottle. It has a convenient mechanism to shift the patient stretcher in and out without the need to physically lift the stretcher. This was demonstrated by one person alone being able to move the stretcher in and out of the ambulance. It is a useful feature in pandemic time, when health staff is overworked and staff availability is low.

Port Blair, May 9: Committed to its Policy of Zero Tolerance against illicit liquor and bootlegging, Andaman & Nicobar Police has registered as many as 10 cases after 2nd May, 2021 when liquor shops and Bars were closed by the District Administration. A special drive has been launched to ensure that no bootlegger takes advantage of the restriction order and supply liquor through unauthorized means. Further, stringent vigil and extensive search operations are being carried out in jungles to prevent preparation of illicit liquor/spurious liquor and desi liquor (‘Handia’). During such special search operations in jungle area several drums containing more than 2500 ltr of illicit liquor wash were discovered and destroyed in the area of Bambooflat, Ferrargunj, Orgrabraj and Diglipur. Around 140 kg of Handia has been recovered under the jurisdiction of PS Pahargaon. To prevent preparation and sale of illicit liquor, stringent vigil is being kept in all Police Stations of A&N Islands.
